Rates
Practice rates for psychological consults / psychotherapy sessions are based on medical aid rates for the current year and increase annually. Rates are calculated according to the duration of the session. If your session runs longer than the allocated session duration, it may lead to a change in the amount invoiced to you or claimed from the medical aid. Claims can be submitted to the particular medical aid on the patient’s behalf should they so choose. Standard medical aid rates will then apply based on the duration of the session. We are able to send claims directly to most of the major South African medical aids. However, the following medical aids are currently not included: BP Medical Aid, Fedhealth, Hosmed, MEDiPOS and Wooltru.
A private rate is available for those patients without medical aid or who prefer to settle their accounts directly with us. The current 2024 private (non-medical aid) rate is R1 500 for a 90 minute consultation and R 1 200 for 60 minutes. Private accounts are payable on the day of your appointment. Card facilities are available for this purpose. No cash will be accepted.
The rates per participant for workshops, group programmes, sacred ceremonies etc. are set according to the respective nature and duration of the event. While the practice won’t be able to assist in claiming for these services from your medical aid, where applicable, you can submit the invoice & receipt from us to your medical aid for reimbursement.
Medical Aid Claims
Medical aid schemes and plans differ in their allocation of funds and limits related to Mental Health Care. Please familiarise yourself with the mental health benefits of your particular medical aid plan prior to consultation. This information is helpful in designing a treatment plan that suits your needs and resources. The patient/couple remains responsible for any shortfall of claims not paid by their medical aid. If claims are sent to the medical aid directly, standard medical aid rates will apply, based on the duration of the session. Applying for Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMB) are only applicable to a specific list of diagnostic codes. Should you qualify, I will discuss this with you in session. Due to PMB benefits being diagnostically dependent, I cannot motivate for PMB before I have seen you for an intake assessment. Similarly, diagnostic codes (ICD10) can only be confirmed post-intake assessment.
Discounted Services
If finances are a big problem (as private services can be expensive), consider exploring establishments where there are reduced or no charge services offered. For example: Tygerberg Hospital Psychology Services (021 938 5120), Welgevallen Community Psychology Clinic (021 808 2696), FAMSA (021 447 0170), Hope House (021 522 9228), and Counselling Hub (021 462 3902). Students without medical aid are also advised to investigate the student wellness services offered at their respective universities or colleges. Alternatively, many of the psychology departments at the local universities offer therapy facilitated by their master’s degree students (HPCSA registered student psychologists) under supervision and at no charge.
